On 31 July and 1 August the teams go into the field. The field tour is the hardest but probably the most interesting part of the competition. Good marks in geography is not going to be enough; one needs general erudition, analytical ability and an urge to constantly search for new information. Many tests require an ability to handle advanced hardware. Today the teams had detailed briefing and were issued GPS navigators.

“Please, no rain!” – the mantra of the Olympiad participants. There was a real tropical shower in Taipei today – a veritable downpour, you couldn’t even see the buildings across the street. It’s monsoon season in Taiwan and after so much rain the soil turns into a kind of swamp in a split second. Let’s hope the weather holds and doesn’t create additional problems for the teams.
