The Winners of the All-Russian Geography Olympiad Announced
The finals of 19th All-Russian Geography Olympiad for high school students took place in Kislovodsk. 15 participants were declared winners, and 52 participants became runner-ups. All of them received prizes from the Russian Geographical Society that helped organize the event.
The Olympiad finalists displayed solid background and skills, so now we hope that the Russian team will perform well at this year’s International Geography Olympiad. The Olympiad organized under the auspices of the International Geographical Union will take place in July 2010 in Taiwan. Only the best four finalists of the All-Russian competition will make the Russian team, but before they go to Taiwan, the students will attend the training camp. The Russian Geographical Society that provided a grant to help young researchers prepare for the Olympiad, plans on arranging up-to-date training seminars for the members of the Russian team, providing psychological support and language instruction. The team members will also be supplied with textbooks, maps, and necessary equipment.
The team preparation is being supervised by Mr. A.Naumov, a member of the Russian Geographical Society since 1988, a doctor of geographical sciences, an Associate Professor at the School of Geography at the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
