Nomination: Ecogeographic Education

Goal: To create an integrated reference system about Russia’s geography.

Objectives:

- Provide information for tourists and travelers about conditions of routes, weather conditions, and cultural and geographical landmarks.

- Ensure travelers’ safety by implementing EMERCOM of Russia’s OKSION-based warning system, registering and tracking travelers.

- Collect and integrate historical and factual data about nature, landscape and geographical discoveries of the Russian Federation.

Grant: 3.7 million Russian rubles.

Project Coordinating Entities: Inter-Agency Working Group (Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, the Russian Geographical Society, Russian Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, EMERCOM, Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Yandex, LLC, All-Russian State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK) and other mass media, and Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS)).

The projects of the Russian Geographical Society serve the purpose of attracting the public’s attention to important geographical and ecological issues. Our goal is to provide an authoritative venue for discussing these issues, to exchange expert opinions, publish research findings and take a lead role in supporting related initiatives. The Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society provides grant funding to projects of national importance after project proposals have been thoroughly evaluated by our team of experts.
